Couples budgeting
A budget app for couples who want one clear number
Most money fights are not about discipline — they are about different pictures of what is left. Monthmate helps couples agree on one safe-to-spend amount after shared bills and savings — on one shared plan.
Honest about v1: budgets live on each device. Couples typically keep the household plan on one phone. Multi-device sync is not available yet — export CSV anytime as a backup.
Why couples budgeting apps fail
Separate accounts, shared spreadsheets, and bank-linked apps that only one partner checks — each creates a different story about your money. A good budget app for couples aligns on bills first, then shows what is actually free to spend.
Monthmate does not force joint envelopes or 40 categories. It answers six monthly questions both partners can agree on: income, spending, must-pay bills, safe-to-spend, savings, and whether you are improving.
How couples use Monthmate
One safe-to-spend number
Agree on income, bills, and a savings target once. Both partners use the same daily number — not separate category totals that never add up.
Shared bills, clear due dates
Rent, utilities, subscriptions — mark what is paid and what is still owed so neither partner is surprised.
One phone for the household plan (v1)
Monthmate is local-first. Keep the household budget on one shared device, or each keep a personal copy. Live multi-device sync is not offered yet.
No bank credentials required
Manual entry keeps both partners aware of spending. Many couples prefer it after years of ignored auto-import.
Families too
Same household plan, same bills, same safe-to-spend logic. See our family budget app page and full family guide.
