Family budgeting
A family budget app that shows what you can spend today
Household money is shared money. Monthmate helps families agree on one safe-to-spend number after bills and savings — so everyone stays aligned on the same plan.
Honest about v1: each device keeps its own local budget. Keep the household plan on one shared phone. Multi-device sync is not available yet.
Why household budget apps fail
Spreadsheets, bank-linked dashboards, and category-heavy apps each give a different picture of your money. A good family budget app or household budget app starts with obligations — bills due this cycle — then shows what is actually free to spend.
Monthmate answers six monthly questions for the household plan: income, spending, must-pay bills, safe-to-spend, savings, and whether you are improving cycle over cycle.
How families use Monthmate
One household safe-to-spend number
Rent, groceries, kids' activities — one daily spending allowance after bills and savings, not separate category silos.
Bills with due dates everyone can check
Mark what is paid and what is still owed so the household knows what is reserved before discretionary spending.
One shared device for the plan (v1)
Monthmate stores the budget on-device. Families typically keep the household plan on one phone. Live sync across phones is not offered yet — CSV export is the backup.
Works offline — no bank login
Log spending at the store, check safe to spend before checkout. Core budgeting does not require an account or internet.
Couples too
No kids in the mix? Same one-plan workflow. See our budget app for couples page and Monthmate vs Honeydue if you’re evaluating couples-specific apps.
